International Considerations on North Korea

By Rebecca TeKolste

Dr. Mira Rapp-Hooper and Dr. Dingding Chen join me for a conversation about US and Chinese policy toward North Korea. We discuss policy options including sanctions, negotiations, and military action. Dr. Chen  explains Chinese perspectives and priorities on the Korean Peninsula, and Dr. Rapp-Hooper puts them in context with American policy. While US and Chinese goals may overlap, they do not necessarily prioritize those goals in the same way. What are US options now given Sino-American economic co-dependence and the lack of common priorities regarding the Korean nuclear issue?
